Media homework. Due Thurs 3rd Oct.

PRODUCTION:
The stages involved in producing a film:
1. Development - This stage is where the ideas for the film are created and the screenplay is written. Financing for the production of the film has to also be possible.
2. Pre-production - Cast and film crew have to be sought. Locations have to be selected. Sets needed have to be built.
3.Production - The film is shot with the actors in action.
4. Post-production - The film is edited. So, any special effects, images or sounds that are needed are edited.
5. Distribution - The finished film is distributed and released in cinemas.

The making of The Notebook:
1. Nicholas Sparks wrote a book called The Notebook.
2. Production - The search for the ultimate screenwriter who could write the first draft and script began in 1996. Several years passed and the perfect screenwriter was still absent, until Nick Cassavetes came along.
3. Casting - Once the script was written, the cast were chosen. Ryan Gosling to play the character of Noah Calhoun. And, Rachel McAdams to play the role of Allison 'Allie' Hamilton.
4. Filming - The filming took place in South Carolina in late 2002 and early 2003. Production offices for the film were set up at the old Charleston Naval Base in North Charleston.
5. Distribution - The film was released on June the 25th, 2004 in the USA. It is ranked the 12th highest-grossing romantic drama film of all time.

DISTRIBUTION:
A reason to why distributors decide to go for a release on one weekend as opposed to another may be because the weekend before their release date could possibly be a annual event and so they choose an alternative that is more likely that people would have spare time and aren't busy, perhaps on a Sunday.
